First Nations Statistical Institute Completes Important Research Report

Ottawa, September 13, 2011

The First Nations Statistical Institute (FNSI) is proud to announce that they have completed the first phase of a comprehensive Environmental Scan. FNSI's objectives in conducting the Environmental Scan were to identify the statistical needs of its stakeholders, understand the challenges or gaps facing the users of First Nations data, and learn about opportunities to improve access to First Nations data sources. The first phase of the Environmental Scan was to grasp how First Nations communities, organizations and governments are using First Nations statistics. The research was conducted through the fall of 2010.

'Generally, there was an expectation that FNSI can make a positive difference for communities, government departments, and statistical bureaus with regards to First Nations' statistical data,' said Keith Conn, Chief Operating Officer at FNSI. 'We have many valuable products and services available to stakeholders, and now the focus is to partner with organizations, governments and agencies to provide relevant and reliable statistics or statistical related products.'

The Executive Summary of the Environmental Scan Research Report is available online at the FNSI website for download, as well as a full list of FNSI's products and services.
